Concept: Children learn from the sounds they hear around them. People make sounds, animals make sounds. Some sounds are loud and others are soft and gentle. Our students will become aware of the sounds in their environment. They will learn about the sources and quality of sounds. Our toddlers will learn that the ear is the organ through which they hear sound.

Ms. Ghada and I really enjoyed the workshop on Tuesday. Ms. Ghada and I explored identifying different sounds. We performed different tests for our students. Before the tests, we asked the children what part of the body do we hear sounds with. London responded "the ears and telephone!" I also demonstrated the different ways of clapping the hands and talking through cups like a telephone. I asked the students what they heard through the cups.

London stated "It's noisy!"
Thomas stated "I hear the wall."
Rony stated "Oh, oh, oh, oh, oh!"
Ryan stated "Stop, stop!"

We had the children demonstrate ways of making noise with their bodies without using their voices. Our kids are so creative! First they clucked. We reminded them they could not use their voices and they minds exploded with ideas. Some made kissing sounds. Some smacked their hips with their hands. We also blind-folded each student, one at a time and had their classmates guide them with their voices.

The children enjoyed themselves and learned more about sounds. I also believe it helped build up literacy for them. The lessons taught them how to follow directions and learn to pronounce new words.

We want to thank Ms. Vicki for introducing some new ways of helping our toddlers want to get involved in learning through sound. We had so much fun with these experiments. Circle time on Wednesday, after the workshop, was a blast. It was totally different and the students loved it. We've also told our parents about Ms. Vicki and the projects she has introduced to the class and our school.
